If you have an insurance plan that covers out-of-network acupuncture and related services performed by a licensed acupuncturist we can provide you with a "super-bill" for you submit to your insurance provider to receive reimbursement after you have paid our fee(s). We’ll do our best to answer your questions about insurance coverage, however our office is unable to verify whether your health insurance plan has coverage for out-of-network acupuncture.

We cannot guarantee that our services will be covered or reimbursed by your plan. Insurance carriers may place restrictions on who you choose to be your practitioner and on the amount they will reimburse you for.

Please consult your insurance company or your benefits representative for information about your plan's coverage.

The procedure to determine if you have coverage for acupuncture is as follows:

Step 1.

Call the member services number on the back of your health insurance card and ask the representative: "Does my policy cover acupuncture treatments from an out-of-network acupuncturist?"

Step 2.

If the representative says "yes", you may ask for the conditions and benefits such as:

  • Is there an annual deductible? (the amount you must pay out of pocket before you receive reimbursements) How much as been met?
  • Am I limited to specific diagnostic codes (only specific sessions)? If so what are they?
  • Co-insurance. The percentage of the allowed charges the policy will reimburse you for. (25%, 50%, 75%)
  • Visit limits, the number of visits each year you will be reimbursed for.

Before you hang up be sure to ask if there is a specific form you need to use and the address where you send your requests for reimbursement.

Step 3.

If you have a Medical Savings Plan or Flexible Spending Account you can put pre-tax dollars aside to pay for services insurance will not cover.
