What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a powerful form of healing and part of a system of healthcare practices used throughout Asia for thousands of years. The earliest records date back to 1766-1122BC. Acupuncture is based on energetic laws and the Taoist principle theory of Yin and Yang.
The Ancients believed the root of all disease was the blockage of Qi and Blood, by removing the blockage and promoting the free flow of Qi and Blood, the body is able to heal itself.
How does Acupuncture work?
Acupuncture works by strengthening the body’s own natural healing abilities; it increases circulation and stimulates the immune system to facilitate healing.
Acupuncture uses the application of needles to stimulate various points on meridians on the body that facilitate the movement of Qi and Blood. Stimulating these points helps bring the body back into balance (the Yin and Yang within the body). The Western understanding would be homeostasis.
Does it hurt?
Unlike most people’s experience with needles, like vaccines or blood draws, acupuncture is not painful. Acupuncture needles are super fine and pass through the outer layer of the skin, bypassing pain receptors in the dermal layer.
What does it feel like?
During an acupuncture session, you may feel a sensation that can be described as pressure, dull, achy, warm, or spreading. As the body relaxes, you will notice an overall calming experience of well-being.
What can be treated?
Acupuncture is used to treat a wide variety of medical problems including pain, anxiety/stress, insomnia, headaches/migraines, muscle pain, chronic back pain, sports injuries, arthritis, digestive disorders, respiratory disorders, neurological and muscular disorders, urinary, menstrual, allergies, reproductive/fertility… and many more.
Is it safe?
In the hands of a comprehensively trained licensed acupuncturist, your safety is assured. We use pre-sterilized, disposable needles for one use only.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
Acupuncture activates the body’s natural healing abilities and the body integrates and learns after each treatment and over a series of sessions. The overall health of the person, including the patient’s attitude, diet, and lifestyle, will influence how many sessions are needed and the successful outcomes of treatments. The chronicity of the condition and other underlying health issues will be considered in the treatment plan.
