Making informed decisions about your health is at the top of life’s list of priorities. Conceiving a child and having a healthy pregnancy is a priority!
While there are literally “tons” of resources online; this list has been put together with your needs in mind:
Taking Charge of Your Fertility
Knowledge is Power
The journey toward motherhood becomes easier when you are knowledgeable about how your body’s reproductive system works. In an excellent guide, Tori Weschler, MPH, provides easy-to-understand, insightful information that will be of extreme value to anyone trying to conceive a child. Now updated in a tenth-anniversary edition, Taking Charge of Your Fertility is a must-read for all Moms-to-be (Dads too!).
Inconceivable: A Woman's Triumph over Despair and Statistics
You Are the Expert on Your Body
Julia Indichova shares her journey through the heartache, frustrations, and challenges of secondary infertility in Inconceivable: A Woman’s Triumph over Despair and Statistics. By reclaiming her role as the expert on her own body and fertility, Julia conceived and gave birth to a healthy baby girl. This book provides hope while valuing the contributions of both Western and traditional medicine in boosting fertility. It is a great read for families struggling with secondary or tertiary infertility and may be of great value to women and men on the journey to their first child.
Understand Your Ovulation
Knowing when you’re going to ovulate is of obvious importance when you’re trying to conceive a baby. Basal temperature tracking documents your body’s lowest temperature throughout the day – generally first thing in the morning – with a highly accurate oral thermometer. As you move closer to ovulation, your basal temperature will steadily creep upward, a sign that your body is preparing for a child. Understanding how your basal temperature changes at different points in your cycle will help you time your conception efforts for maximum effectiveness.
Pinpoint Peak Fertility
The optimal time to attempt conceiving a baby is within 6 to 24 hours after ovulation. Determining when ovulation occurs is a top priority. Ovulation test kits work by tracking the amounts of luteinizing hormone (LH) present in your system. During what is known as the LH Surge, the levels of your luteinizing hormones in your body spike – a sure sign that you’ve ovulated. Ovulation test kits work in much the same way pregnancy tests do: a quick urine test tells you everything you need to know.
Highly Accurate Ovulation Prediction
Electronic fertility monitors are the new gold standard for couples eager to conceive a baby. Highly accurate and easy to read, the ease of use electronic fertility monitors offer appeal to many. Saliva based fertility monitors are more affordable while delivering reliable results: good to know if you’re starting a family while on a budget.
Pre-Seed Fertility- Friendly Lubricant
Mimics Your Body’s Natural Fluids
There are many factors that contribute to vaginal dryness, including stress, fatigue, and maternal age. Intimate lubricants address this issue, but there’s a problem: the glycerin used in many of these products actually inhibits the sperms’ activity, reducing the chances of successful conception. Choose a glycerin-free lubricant for your conception efforts to make the entire process more joyful without inhibiting your fertility.
